DTF Pressing Instructions
Apply Your DTF Transfer With Confidence
Proper pressing helps your DTF transfer bond to the garment and gives your finished apparel a clean, durable result. Follow the instructions below carefully and always use the technical settings provided with your order when available.
Important: Press settings can vary depending on the transfer film, adhesive, garment material, heat press, pressure, and peel method. If The 2x2 Method provides order-specific instructions, those instructions should take priority over general guidance on this page.
What You Will Need
•A clean, dry garment
•A heat press
•Your DTF transfer
•A lint roller
•A protective cover sheet, if required
•A flat, heat-safe pressing surface
Before Pressing
1. Prepare the Garment
Place the garment on a clean, flat pressing surface. Make sure the fabric is dry and free from dust, lint, moisture, oils, wrinkles, and loose fibers.
Use a lint roller if needed to remove debris from the pressing area.
2. Pre-Press the Garment
Pre-press the garment to remove moisture and smooth the fabric. Use the time and temperature recommended for your garment and transfer system.

3. Position the Transfer
Place the transfer on the garment with the printed design facing up and the adhesive side against the fabric. Position the design carefully before pressing.
Check the placement, alignment, and orientation. Once the transfer has been pressed, repositioning may not be possible.

4. Cover the Transfer
Place the recommended protective cover sheet over the transfer if required by the transfer instructions.
5. Apply Heat and Pressure
Press the transfer using the temperature, time, and pressure recommended for your transfer and garment combination.

Avoid opening the press before the full press time has been completed. Make sure the garment remains flat during pressing.

6. Peel According to the Transfer Type
Allow the transfer to cool or cool partially according to the required peel method. Then remove the film carefully and slowly from one corner.
Do not force the film away from the garment. If the design begins to lift, lay the film back down and repress according to the recommended settings.

Second Press
7. Complete the Second Press, If Required
Some DTF transfer systems require a second press to improve adhesion and finish. If a second press is required, cover the design with the recommended protective material and press using the specified settings.

After Pressing
Allow the garment to cool completely before folding, packaging, or wearing it. Inspect the design to confirm that the edges are fully bonded and the transfer is lying smoothly on the fabric.
If an edge appears loose, follow the approved repressing instructions for the transfer system.
Washing and Care Instructions
To help protect the finished design:
•Wait the recommended time before washing the garment.
•Turn the garment inside out before washing.
•Wash with cold or cool water unless otherwise instructed.
•Use a mild detergent.
•Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
•Do not dry clean unless the garment-care instructions allow it.
•Tumble dry on low or hang dry according to the garment and transfer-care instructions.
•Do not iron directly over the transferred design.

Common Problems and What to Check
The transfer is lifting
Check that the garment was clean and dry, that sufficient pressure was applied, and that the correct temperature and press time were used. Repress only according to the approved instructions for the transfer.
The design looks wrinkled
Check the garment placement, press surface, pressure, and protective cover. Make sure the garment was smooth before pressing.
The design did not adhere evenly
Check whether the entire design was inside the heated and pressed area. Make sure seams, pockets, zippers, buttons, and thick fabric areas did not prevent even pressure.
The transfer looks damaged
Stop pressing and contact The 2x2 Method with photographs and your order information. Do not continue applying heat if the issue is unclear.
Important Reminder
Always test a transfer on a similar garment when possible, especially when working with a new fabric, heat press, or production setup. Different garment materials and equipment can respond differently to heat and pressure.
